WHAT TO EXPECT
If you’re planning to visit us for one of our Sunday morning worship services, we have some information for you that might be helpful. Obviously, we cannot say everything there is to be said, so if you still have unanswered questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us: church.office@cstonemesa.org
SUNDAY MORNING
We gather together in the name of Jesus Christ to pray, sing hymns, read from the Bible, receive the preaching and teaching of the Word of God, observe the ordinances of baptism and the Lord’s Supper, and fellowship together in the unity of the Spirit. We believe that Christ rules over His church through the Bible, therefore at Cornerstone the preaching of God’s Word is central. We are also committed to not only being hearers but doers of the Word, because as James writes, faith without works is dead (James 2:17).
COMMUNITY
As we gather together as God’s people, we are called to love one another as Jesus Christ has loved us (John 13:34). We are not a perfect people at Cornerstone – we still stumble and sin – but we are a redeemed people. By God’s grace we seek to live in unity, humility, and love, putting off sins and embracing our call to be, “kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave (us).” (Ephesians 4:32)
After our morning worship, most people stay to fellowship over coffee and donuts. We’d love for you to stick around after the service. This would also be a great time to meet one of our pastors.
WORSHIP IN SONG
We sing a mixture of both contemporary and traditional hymns. We aim to choose hymns that are theologically rich, musically compelling, and easy to sing. Our emphasis in worship is on congregational singing (Col. 3:16). Therefore, those who play musical instruments, and lead the congregation in singing, serve us in an accompanying role.
CHILDREN
We believe that it’s a blessing for children to remain within our worship services. This was the practice of the early church (Ephesians 6:1-3). However, we do have a nursery available for little ones under 3.
CLOTHING
On a Sunday morning you’ll see members dressed in anything from shorts and a t-shirt to more formal attire. Therefore, whatever your preference and conviction, please feel at liberty to dress accordingly.
